There's an island in Ontario with white sand beaches and 'Caribbean vibes'

Who needs to go on a tropical vacation when you have white sand beaches and "Caribbean vibes" right here in good, old Ontario? It's none other than Petrie Island, and this summer is a must-visit.

Though the weather has been less than favourable lately, we know that's about to change as we head into June. Hot, sunny weather is on the horizon, and now is a great time to plan your next trip.

What to expect

Located right in the Ottawa region of Orléans, Petrie Island is known for its two stunning beaches. These summer destinations are popular during the season, more so because of their pristine white sand and calm waters.

"Every summer, folks from as far away as Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and China come to enjoy the exceptionally fine fishing in the area," shares the Heart of Orléans BIA.

"Many others come to take in the white sand beaches, the Caribbean vibe, and bask in the restorative sunshine."

Its Main Beach spans across the Ottawa River, and the East Beach is more sheltered in a Bay, according to the Swim Guide.

According to Friends of Petrie, there are about 400 parking spots available priced at $2 for 5 hours. This is enforced from Victoria Day to Labour Day weekends, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

After your beach day, enjoy a lovely picnic and even play a game of volleyball with local net rentals.

There's lots to see and do in the area, especially an array of restaurants worth enjoying.

So don't forget that swimsuit and head on east to Petrie Island Beach this summer. A trip to eastern Ontario is in order!

Petrie Island Beach is located at 795 Trim Rd., Orléans, Ont.
