With the winter season fully underway, cozy, quiet getaways are a great way to explore Ontario's natural beauty.
If winter glamping paired with highland cows and a bed-and-breakfast stay sounds like your thing, it might be time to visit The Taiga Animal Sanctuary in East Gwillimbury, less than an hour north of Toronto.
The Taiga, renowned for its calming and meditative environment, recently introduced a bed and breakfast experience, an add-on to their existing accommodations, which already include a treehouse stay and an apartment for larger groups.
The B&B offers guests a choice between two suites that can accommodate two people — the Luna Suite and the Cedar Suite — each paired with a complimentary breakfast cart delivered right to the room every morning between 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Guests have access to the full 10-acre forest and all the friendly mini Highland cows who wander by to say hello. Visitors are encouraged to interact with the wildlife, as that's where the experience of restoration and calm truly begins.

Jennifer McCabe, owner of The Taiga Animal Sanctuary and a Canadian Forces veteran, tells blogTO, "At The Taiga, guests experience quiet time in nature, connection with animals who were redeemed from neglect, and an overall peaceful environment."
After taking two years to open due to "oppositions and zoning battles," McCabe recalls, the sanctuary now boasts four suites, a sauna and hot tub, plus accessible trails where guests can interact with rescued highland cows, as well as chickens, pigs, and dogs.
Rates for the B&B start at $150 per night, and guests can book their stay directly through The Taiga's official website.
The Taiga Animal Sanctuary is located at 54 Bridle Path in Sharon, Ont.
