Ontario is known for its ample hiking trails and picturesque natural wonders that residents can flock to year-round. We have lots to brag about when it comes to greenways, boardwalks and more, and the G2G Rail Trail gives us another reason to boast.
The Goderich to Guelph Rail Trail, more commonly referred to as the G2G Rail Trail, is a 132 km long corridor of land that runs directly from the former town, which sits along the Lake Huron coast, all the way to Guelph.
It may sound like a bit of an undertaking, but if you're a nature and/or fitness enthusiast (although fitness is not mandatory), then you'll want to add this journey to your list of must-visit outdoor spots to spend a day off.

G2G goes straight through Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, running along a former rail line that was decommissioned in 1988. Since then, it's been transformed into an inclusive recreational pathway for non-motorized activities like hiking, cycling, birding and more — even cross-country skiing, come winter!

Despite its interesting backstory and scenic route — along with the fact that it's open all year — G2G is one of the less-busy hiking trails in the province. This may be because the 132 km stretch sounds daunting to many, or perhaps it feels less accessible. This eco trail, however, isn't as challenging as you may think.

For starters, trekkers don't have to hike, bike or run the entire stretch of land in one go.
Instead, the trail is divided into five sections so you can get in and out with ease, and even use the communities along the way to take well-deserved breaks, if needed. Although the distance between each of these stops varies, the average expanse of land is between seven and twenty kilometers.
That being said, it's not uncommon for people to bike or even run the G2G from one end to another in one day — many have shared anecdotes of their trail experiences online, saying that the feat is completely plausible for trained cyclists and runners.
For those who are less active, embarking on a shorter route and taking things at your own pace is likely the way to go, according to those who have firsthand experience of it.

And speaking of online reactions, most who've experienced the beauty that surrounds the G2G Rail Trail can't stop raving about it. So, if you're looking for a little wilderness adventure and a much-needed break from downtown life, this is where you might want to stroll through next.
