up express closure this weekend

Entire Toronto transit line will shut down for this whole weekend

An entire transit line will be out of service this coming weekend, and anyone commuting to and from Toronto Pearson International Airport will want to plan alternate travel accommodations.

The full 23-kilometre run of the UP Express will shut down for the full weekend of Saturday, Sept. 12 and Sunday, Sept. 13, due to planned construction along the route.

Metrolinx announced that the line will be replaced by a direct GO bus running between Union Station Bus Terminal and Pearson Airport Terminal 1, with no service at Bloor, Mount Dennis or Weston stations.

And that's not the only Metrolinx closure set to disrupt travel across the region this weekend. Two GO Transit routes will experience significant shutdowns for the next two weekends.

Planned construction taking place along the Barrie Line will halt GO Train service between Downsview Park GO and Union Station on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 12-13.

GO's Kitchener Line will experience a partial shutdown this coming weekend, with no trains running from Stratford or Kitchener stations (some scheduled trains do not serve the former) to Mount Pleasant station, as well as another key stretch through Toronto spanning from Mount Dennis to Union Station.

Even TTC riders have some frustration ahead, with the local transit agency planning a late opening of subway service on Line 2 between St George and Broadview stations, with trains to be replaced by shuttle buses from the start of service until 11 a.m. on Sunday, September 13, due to planned infrastructure maintenance.
