Toronto is about to get a new direct flight route to New York City

Anyone looking to take a bite out of the Big Apple in 2025 is in luck, as one Ontario airline is introducing a new crop of direct flights between Toronto and New York City.

Following the completion of a $5.1 billion USD renovation at the airport's terminal B, Toronto's very own Porter Airlines — one of North America's best airlines for economy class — is about to introduce a brand-new direct route to LaGuardia Airport.

Starting on May 1, 2025, the airline will be offering up to three daily roundtrip flights between Pearson (YYZ) and LaGuardia (LGA), with flights departing from LaGuardia at 6:15 a.m. (except Sundays), 9:55 a.m., and 5:30 p.m. daily, and leaving Toronto at 7:15 a.m., 2:50 p.m. and 7:25 p.m. (except Saturdays).

“We have built a strong passenger base over more than 15 years for those travelling between Canada and the New York metropolitan area," says Vice President Andrew Pierce in a release about the new route.

"The addition of LaGuardia introduces a new dimension to our network, opening more options for existing customers and the ability to attract new ones within the busiest air service corridor connecting Canada and the U.S.”

Prior to the addition of this new route, Porter only offered direct flights to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, which would take travellers about an hour on transit to access Manhattan.

At this time, the new direct routes to LaGuardia will only be offered out of Pearson Airport, so even though downtown residents won't get the convenience of travelling from Billy Bishop, you can still count on those sweet complimentary drinks while you travel.

If you do want to book a trip from Billy Bishop Airport to New York City, you can opt for one of the airline's six daily direct flights to Newark from the island airport instead. Not too shabby.
