Elections Canada website suffers technical issues at worst possible time

It appears Elections Canada's website is experiencing some technical issues this evening, just as polls in the 45th Canadian federal general election are beginning to come to a full close across the country.

As of the time of writing, voting stations are still open in British Columbia, Alberta, parts of Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, and the Yukon. Polling stations in B.C. will be the last to close at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PDT.

The issues with the website first began at approximately 7 p.m. ET.

In a series of posts on X in response to a growing number of social media reports raising issues of the website outage, Elections Canada recommended last minute voters to check the voting location details on the voting card mailed to their home or call the local elections office.

In a bulletin, Elections Canada has noted that they are "working hard to fix it."

"Our website is having technical difficulties. As a result, some of our online services and tools are currently unavailable. We are aware of the issue and are working hard to fix it. We apologize for any inconvenience," reads the bulletin.

Although the main website of Elections Canada is currently down, the agency's live elections page is still working. At the time of writing, preliminary results for the closed polling stations in the Maritime provinces have begun to roll in.
