Kawhi Leonard reportedly thinks Toronto Raptors trade fiasco will be resolved soon

Kawhi Leonard is optimistic that he will be a member of the Toronto Raptors sooner rather than later. 

Just days after a bombshell report from investigative sports journalist Pablo Torre that alleged another under-the-table multi-million-dollar deal between Leonard and jumbotron company Daktronic, it appears the NBA superstar remains unfazed. 

According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the 35-year-old Leonard "strongly believes" that he will be able to join the Raptors in time for training camp, which is set to get underway on Sept. 29 in Quebec City. 

Does Kawhi know something we don't?

The Raptors agreed to a blockbuster trade to acquire Leonard from the LA Clippers back on June 30 that saw Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, two unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, and two second-round picks in 2030 and 2033 going the other way. 

Toronto put that trade on hold on July 9, awaiting a resolution to the NBA's investigation into whether Leonard and the Clippers made backroom deals to help circumvent the league's salary cap. 

When will the saga be resolved? There was some speculation that potential arbitration could cause the investigation to drag on into 2027. 

Fischer mentioned that the Clippers are prepared to go through the arbitration process depending on how severe the penalties from the NBA are after the investigation concludes. 

If this fiasco gets cleared up and the trade is allowed to go through, the expectation is that Leonard will negotiate a contract extension with Toronto that extends beyond next season.
