The Toronto Maple Leafs have a new goalie.
Sergei Bobrovsky is coming to Toronto, after signing a three-year contract worth $7 million per season, as first reported by Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
A two-time Vezina Trophy winner and back-to-back Stanley Cup winner with the Florida Panthers, Bobrovsky has an impressive resume. He'll be in the Hall of Fame one day.
The question mark for him is age.
Bobrovsky turns 38 in September and will be 40 years old when this contract expires. The Russian netminder is coming off a disappointing season that saw him post a career-low save percentage (.877).
Does he still have gas left in the tank? If he does, he'll provide stability in goal for the Leafs next season. If not, this could be an anchor contract that weighs down the team in the coming years.
It's a big bet by new general manager John Chayka.
