John Schneider hasn't 'been told by anyone' if Toronto Blue Jays will sell at trade deadline

It still remains to be seen whether or not the Toronto Blue Jays will be sellers ahead of Monday's trade deadline.

The common consensus is that they will indeed look to trade out several players, with names such as George Springer, Daulton Varsho, Kevin Gausman, and Shane Bieber all being involved in heavy speculation.

Selling seems to be the most logical step for the Blue Jays, who sit dead last in the AL East with a 50-59 record. They are 5.5 games back of the Cleveland Guardians for the final wild-card position.

That said, there are still some who believe this team can heat up and get back to looking like the team who advanced to the World Series in 2025. Manager John Schneider would certainly fall into that category, but admitted ahead of Friday's game versus the St. Louis Cardinals that he doesn't know how things will play out.

"It's kind of murky," Schneider told reporters regarding the deadline. "I haven't been told by anyone above me that we're selling, you know what I mean?"

Things have been particularly rough for the Blue Jays as of late, as they've won just five of 18 games post All-Star break. 

The good news for Blue Jays fans is that regardless of how the trade deadline pans out, most insiders believe this organization will look to be competitive once again in 2027. Though that will require some roster changes, they do have several great pieces in place to give reason for optimism.

While a playoff run looks very unlikely this season, this team could very well get back to being a contender in 2027 should GM Ross Atkins make the appropriate roster tweaks in the offseason.
