toronto blue jays hat

Toronto Blue Jays fans absolutely hate this new hat

Our neighbours to the south are turning 250 years old this year, and the Toronto Blue Jays are getting in on the celebration.

The annual MLB Fourth of July cap collection was revealed online this week, and some fans aren't too happy about the patriotic look of the Blue Jays' design.

The beige-toned cap features a red-and-white Blue Jays logo on the front, which is fine on its own. But some fans' issue with the hat stems from the red, white and blue ribbon underneath the logo and the large "America 250" patch stitched onto the side.

Fans wasted little time roasting the design on social media.

"This will be the first hat to sell zero units," one fan wrote. "What was the thought process here?"

"I guess the MLB took the 51st-state jokes a little too seriously?" wrote another.

According to the product description on MLBShop.com, the hat combines "stars, stripes, and hometown pride" all in one.

But don't worry, there's a Canadian flag liner hidden inside the hat for everyone to see! All you need to do is wear it as a rally cap all game, so everyone will still know where your allegiances still lie.

All in all, the design isn't too bad compared to some of the previous Fourth of July-inspired editions, like this stars-and-stripes one from 2022.

If you're looking to pick one up for yourself or a very specific type of friend, it'll cost you. The limited-edition cap is currently listed at US$55.99, which is roughly $78 in canuck bucks.

And yes, the Blue Jays are actually expected to wear these Independence Day-themed hats during their three-game series against the Seattle Mariners from July 3 to 5, but will wear red Canada-themed ones, as per usual, on July 1st.
