Kawhi Leonard could reportedly return to Toronto Raptors

Is Kawhi Leonard coming back?

Seven years after leaving Toronto, the 34-year-old is reportedly open to a Raptors reunion.

Leonard's future with the LA Clippers is up in the air. While he may prefer to stay with the Clippers, if that fails to come to fruition the seven-time All-Star is reportedly open to rejoining the Raptors

"While Kawhi Leonard's preference is to remain with the Clippers, league sources say the two-time Finals MVP would be open to signing an extension with Toronto, amid the Raptors' own interest in reuniting with Leonard," NBA insider Jake Fischer wrote on X.

Fischer's report comes shortly after ESPN's Bobby Marks seemed to hint about a Raptors return with Leonard during the NBA Draft.

"He's extension eligible," Marks said. "I think there's a lot of playoff teams keeping an eye on what happens with Kawhi Leonard. Maybe his former teams."

Leonard has remained an elite player into his 30s, averaging 27.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game last season. He is set to enter the final year of his three-year deal with the Clippers, which will see him earn $50.3 million. If the Raptors were to land him, it would likely be a sign-and-trade deal.

As exciting as the thought of re-acquiring Leonard is, the Raptors front office will need to be careful in how they proceed.

Leonard is still part of an NBA investigation along with the Clippers regarding allegations of salary cap circumvention. It would be a necessity for the Raptors front office to seek clarification on the investigation before proceeding with a trade.
