It was an emotional day for Bo Bichette.
The 28-year-old infielder was back at Rogers Centre on Monday for his first game against the Toronto Blue Jays since leaving the team for the New York Mets in free agency this past winter.
This is a game that Blue Jays fans circled on the calendars as soon as the ink was dry on Bichette's three-year, $126 million deal with the Mets.
The game is also meaningful for Bichette, who fought back tears when talking to reporters.
"I gave it everything I had... So I just hope that's appreciated," a visibly emotional Bichette said. "It feels different, for sure, but I'm excited to get out here and play some ball, see some guys."

Bichette was drafted by the Blue Jays back in 2016 and was a fixture on the Major League roster between 2019 and 2025. During that time, he became a franchise cornerstone in Toronto alongside Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Vladdy and Bo formed a strong friendship while coming up through the Blue Jays system, and things became even more emotional when the media asked Bichette about reuniting with Guerrero.
"It'll be good [to see Guerrero Jr.]," Bichette said after a long pause.

Bichette hit a three-run home run in his final game with the Blue Jays, in Game 7 of the World Series.
"I'm so grateful that we had that experience and got there, but you dream of winning it," Bichette said. "I don't know how many times I've replayed it, but it comes to mind every once in a while."

Bichette has gotten off to a disappointing start with the Mets, with just 10 home runs and 46 RBIs in 84 games this season. By contrast, his Blue Jays replacement, Kazuma Okamoto, is posting better numbers with 19 home runs and 53 RBIs.
