LeBron James refuses to spend his billions on data roaming fees when he visits Toronto

They say the rich don't get rich by spending money, and the world's most famous basketball star might be the latest example.

LeBron James may be the first NBA player to become a billionaire while still playing, though he's not one to pay for roaming data when he visits Toronto.

James' former teammate and close friend Kevin Love was asked about the four-time NBA champion's frugality, and Love revealed that LeBron goes to the extreme to save a dollar here and there.

Love said he saw it "a million times" in Toronto. James would apparently refuse to use international cellular data and would instead go around asking for Wi-Fi passwords.

"They talk about wealth and all that. It's the things you don't see. For him, if we're in Toronto, that drive from the airport and going through customs to then getting to our hotel, he isn't using data at all," Love said to Bleacher Report.

"He's waiting for the Wi-Fi all the time. Then that drive from the hotel to the arena, he's also waiting to get to the arena Wi-Fi."

According to Forbes, LeBron James' reported net worth is around $1.4 billion, although it's apparent the 22-time NBA All-Star becomes just like the rest of us whenever he crosses a border.

Love said he tried to convince James to turn on his roaming a few times, but the 41-year-old wasn't having it.

"What's the great finance saying? 'A small leak can sink a great ship.' I can appreciate it. It's not like I'm mad at him [for not using it]. But c'mon, bro. Seriously, it's just roaming," laughed Love.

James has played roughly 80 games in Toronto against the Raptors over his 23-year NBA career, so if he were paying the daily $10 roaming fee every time he came north of the border, all those little charges could add up.

As former Dallas Mavericks owner and "Shark Tank" investor Mark Cuban once put it: "Billionaires are cheap. That's how they stay billionaires."

Maybe LeBron just uncovered that asking for the Wi-Fi everywhere is the secret to becoming a billionaire.
