Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer further detailed the handwritten letter his eight-year-old daughter, Brooke, penned to the organization during the offseason.
Shortly after it was announced that the Blue Jays and Scherzer had reached a one-year deal, his wife, Erica, posted an adorable letter written by Brooke. In it, she pleaded with the organization to re-sign her dad.
"Dear Blue Jays," the note read. "I am so sorry that you didn't win the World Series. I hope that you win next time. I hope my dad is back on the team. My whole family loves spending time in Toronto with our dad.
"We loved the aquarium, CN Tower and of course, the stadium. I am looking forward to coming back next season. Love, Max Scherzer's daughter.”
It took some time for the Blue Jays to fulfill her wish, as Scherzer explained to reporters that the letter was penned back in December.
"That's when we were writing letters to Santa," said a beaming Scherzer.
The three-time Cy Young winner explained that one night, while writing letters to Santa, his daughter came downstairs and asked for a stamp. Though caught off guard, he and his wife gave her one, not knowing what was happening until they opened the letter later that night to take a peek.
"It said 'To the Blue Jays.' When she went to bed, we opened it and saw what she had written. Cutest thing you can possibly imagine when you read it."
Though the 41-year-old was always hoping to return to Toronto himself, he had to inform Brooke that he didn't send the letter after she had asked.
"No, we didn't send it. That's a bad negotiating tactic."
The letter quickly went viral amongst Blue Jays fans, who, like Scherzer and his wife, found it absolutely adorable. It's only helped ensure further that Mad Max will continue to be a fan favourite in Toronto over the course of the 2026 season.
