Toronto Blue Jays pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann will be off for at least a week due to left elbow soreness.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters on Tuesday that the left-handed Tiedemann felt soreness in his throwing elbow following his last side session. He has since undergone an MRI which has come back "clean."

Tiedemann, selected in the third round of the 2021 draft by the Blue Jays, was at one point considered the organization's top prospect. As of 2025, he had slid down slightly to fourth.
The concern regarding this elbow soreness is that Tiedemann missed the entire 2025 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He also pitched just 17.1 combined innings in 2024 due to the injury.
While it's great news that Tiedemann's MRI came back clean, there is still plenty of reason for concern here.
A sore elbow in a pitcher can often signal a strained or torn UCL, which then leads to Tommy John. It's not uncommon for players to undergo the procedure once like Tiedemann has, but having to go through it twice, especially in such a short span, can be career threatening.
Both the organization and fans will be praying this current issue doesn't become anything serious, as there is still some major potential in Tiedemann. That said, if this were to turn into another long-term absence, real questions will arise as to whether or not he can become a successful MLB pitcher.
