Toronto Blue Jays considering trade that has Bichette implications

The Toronto Blue Jays are keeping all options on the table when it comes to their infield next season.

While the Blue Jays are still hoping to re-sign Bo Bichette, there is no guarantee that the 27-year-old returns. As a result, they are reportedly scouring the trade market for another infield option.

As reported by MLB insider Jon Morosi, the Blue Jays have checked in on three-time All-Star Ketel Marte. The second baseman hit .283 with 28 home runs and 72 RBI in 2025 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 32-year-old agreed to a six-year, $116.5 million extension with the Diamondbacks this past April.

"I think it's at least a 50-50 chance that Ketel Marte is moved by the Diamondbacks," Morosi said. "The Diamondbacks are actively listening on Ketel Marte. Nothing is close, but multiple teams have checked in. Among the teams to check in [are] the Phillies and the Blue Jays."

It is important to note that Marte does have a limited no-trade clause, though Morosi made it clear that the Jays are not on that list. He also said exactly what everybody is thinking about what their interest in Marte could mean for Bichette.

"Why is this really important right now? Well, if it's the Jays, think about this. That would mean that Andres Gimenez is the shortstop, that Marte is the second baseman, and Bo Bichette would be playing somewhere else."

While losing Bichette would be a tough pill to swallow, Marte is no slouch. Not only did the veteran appear in his third All-Star game this past season, but he also finished third in NL MVP voting in 2024. That 2024 season saw him hit a robust .292 with a career-high 36 home runs and 95 RBI.

Though a Bichette return certainly isn't out of the question, the Jays management brass appears to be keeping their options open should he leave. Other teams believed to have interest in signing him are the LA Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, San Francisco Giants, and New York Yankees, among several others.

Should Bichette sign elsewhere, the Blue Jays would receive draft compensation thanks to the qualifying offer they extended his way.
