Gradey Dick explains hilarious new Toronto Raptors win tradition

The Toronto Raptors have certainly been winning a lot this season.

Entering Friday, they've won 13 of their last 14 games, good enough for second in the Eastern Conference.

And while it's still early days, they seem to be blowing most preseason projections out of the water, and having fun with it, too.

One of the post-game traditions that has continued this year has been the MVP chain Raptors logo necklace handed out after wins to different players by head coach Darko Rajakovic.

And as flagged by NBA researcher Keerthika Uthayakumar, Gradey Dick has been pulling off the same pose in each postgame team picture with the winner of the chain.

Dick spoke to Offside at an event this week, organized by Gillette, which is now in the third year of its endorsement campaign with the Raptors youngster.

"I think the first game, I just stood there and flexed as hard as I could," Dick said, "I tried to look cool for Darko and show him that I've been working in the weight room.  And then I saw some comments about it and kept it going."

A preseason trip that set the tone

For the past two summers, the Raptors have taken a team trip together to Spain during the offseason to help build on- and off-court chemistry.

"I feel like going to Madrid was a blast, bringing our full team together and getting a good workout out there, and seeing the pieces kind of fit in the way they do," Dick added. "It's pretty cool to get another season underway and hit the ground running."

Toronto is a second home

Growing up in Wichita, Kansas, Dick didn't venture too far when he first moved away from home to play college basketball for the Kansas Jayhawks.

But when he got drafted to Toronto in 2023, he found himself living in a new country for the first time.

"I'll never take for granted just the Canadian genuineness of the people, how nice they are," Dick said. "Just walking along the streets and going to dinner or whatnot, and just speaking with people and just seeing how humble and kind they are, it's kind of a breath of fresh air."

As long as the Raptors keep winning, you can bet that there will be plenty more smiles and fun poses coming from the youngster.
