Every Toronto Raptors player just cashed in bonus money

The Toronto Raptors accomplished a small feat of franchise history over the weekend.

While it’s far from their main goal entering any season, the Raptors clinched their first-ever berth in the NBA Cup knockout round with a victory over the Washington Wizards last Friday.

Initially known as the "in-season tournament," the NBA Cup has been the league’s midseason competition over the past three years to spice up an occasionally monotonous NBA season.

And while a win in the knockout round would give Toronto and its players a trip to Las Vegas for the semifinal and final, the NBA Cup also has a little extra motivation on the line rather than just a trophy.

“I think we get a little bonus,” Scottie Barnes told the media after Toronto clinched their quarterfinal berth.

How much will Raptors players make for the NBA Cup?

While we don’t have this year’s bonus numbers made publicly available yet, we can give a pretty good bet on the Raptors’ bonus based on 2024 numbers, per USA Today’s Jeff Zillgitt.

Here’s how much each individual player picked up for advancing to the knockout rounds of last year’s NBA Cup, with the Milwaukee Bucks winning it all:

  • 1st place: $514,970
  • 2nd place: $205,988
  • Semifinal losers: $102,994
  • Quarterfinal losers: $51,497

The previous numbers started at $500k, $200k, $100k, and $50k in 2023, but saw a small increase due to the league’s basketball-related income going up each year.

Though NBA stars with big contracts won’t be moved too much by the amount the Raptors have currently clinched, it’s no small chunk of change – particularly in a city as expensive as Toronto – for the rookies and younger players on the roster.

And if Toronto keeps moving deeper into the NBA Cup, that money could end up changing from a "little bonus" to a big one.
