bo bichette engaged

Toronto Blue Jays star Bo Bichette is engaged and here's what we know

Bo Bichette has locked in a lifelong contract — it's just not with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Toronto Star's Rosie DiManno revealed in an article on Monday that Bichette got engaged to his girlfriend, Alexis, in May, with a wedding planned for next January.

While Bichette, 27, is known for his flashy on-field play, it doesn't always seem to translate to his off-field personality, as he's generally quite soft-spoken in interviews.

There's little that's known about the couple otherwise, as Bichette is not currently active on social media.

But perhaps the engagement might explain one Bichette decision over the past year, as he opted to chop his signature long hair last December for the first time since becoming an MLB player. While we can't confirm his motivations, Bichette might've just been doing a soft launch of his new style for those eventual wedding photos next year.

How has Bichette been doing for the Blue Jays?

Bichette leads the Blue Jays with 100 hits this season. Since making his debut for the franchise in 2019, only Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has outplayed him in 696 games in a Toronto uniform.

The two-time All-Star shortstop could be in his last season with the Jays, as he is currently slated to hit free agency next season. While Guerrero Jr. locked up the biggest deal in franchise history with a US$500 million deal earlier in the season, Bichette has yet to see his name reported at the negotiation table for a long-term deal with Toronto.

While he'd been floated as a possible trade option for the Blue Jays entering the season, that would seem less likely with the team currently in first place in the American League East.

Should he hit the free agent market this offseason, he'll likely be one of the most courted-after players in all of baseball.
