CN Tower cheering on Edmonton Oilers in Stanley Cup final game

The Edmonton Oilers once again hold the mantle as Canada's team, and they're getting support from an iconic Toronto landmark.

With the Oilers set to kick off the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers on Wednesday night, the CN Tower has decided to throw its support behind Connor McDavid's squad.

Its official X account posted that the tower will light up in blue and orange colours on Wednesday as the puck drops on Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final.

"Tonight, the CN Tower will be lit in orange and blue for the Edmonton Oilers, the last Canadian team in the Stanley Cup Playoffs," the social media post read.

A Toronto icon supporting a team in Edmonton would seem absurd in any other situation, but it makes sense this time around — a Canadian team has not won the Stanley Cup in over 30 years, and many fans are putting rivalries aside to see the Cup return home.

This also wouldn't be the first time that the CN Tower has lit up to support a rival NHL team.

Back in 2021, the tower did the unthinkable and decided to sport Montreal Canadiens colours just mere weeks after the Habs eliminated the Leafs from the playoffs.

Both instances have garnered some angry reactions from Toronto hockey fans, but you can't blame the CN Tower for having some national pride. It's the largest free-standing structure on the continent and proudly boasts itself as an icon of Canada, not just Toronto.

The Oilers certainly have a lot on the line once again, as Canadians (coast-to-coast-to-coast) are cheering them on to end the Cup drought.
