Spaghetti Western
Spaghetti Western is a new family-owned restaurant in Toronto that serves king-sized sandwiches and huge portions of pasta.
Opened in August of 2025, the restaurant is helmed by Dimitri and Laura Petropoulos and their long-time friend, Constantine "Costa" Patiniotis.
Dimitri and Costa have both been in the pasta business for over a decade, supplying fresh pasta to restaurants throughout the city.
Dimitri says that the decision to transition from distribution to full service was an obvious one, telling blogTO, "We've been working with other restaurants for so long that we just figured, why not start one ourselves?"
The restaurant is housed in a cozy white and cream coloured space. Designed by Joey Bilewicz of Studio Nonplus, a local design firm, the dining room was intended to evoke both an Italian trattoria and an old west saloon.
This unique blend of Italian and American imagery is a consistent part of Spaghetti Western's brand: the restaurant's logo features a stylized depiction of Italy's boot-shaped coastline, while the menu is adorned with cowboys eating plates of spaghetti.
When asked why they had chosen this peculiar aesthetic, the owners explained it was intended as an homage to the spaghetti western film genre.
Laura tells us that spaghetti westerns allowed Italian filmmakers to put their own spin on classic cowboy flicks. Similarly, Spaghetti Western allows its staff to put their own spin on classic pasta dishes, "bringing Italian food to a casual, quick service audience."
Dimitri adds that they didn't want the restaurant to feel "stuffy", so leaning into the cowboy aesthetic was an easy way to do that.
Spaghetti Western specializes in made-to-order pasta and panuozzo, a type of Italian sandwich made from pizza dough.
While the noodles are made from scratch, the restaurant receives its dough from Grayson's Rustic Bakery, another business in the Upper Beaches.
"This is a very close-knit community," Dimitri explains. "We try to support each other as much as we can."
Spaghetti with classic tomato sauce ($16) is an elevated take on an iconic pasta dish. Long, thin spaghetti noodles are topped with blistered cherry tomatoes, basil and shaved parmesan, enhancing the tangy flavour of the tomato sauce.
Rigatoni with bolognese sauce ($19) is another popular choice. This flavourful dish pairs chunky, tube-shaped noodles with a savoury meat sauce, made from a mix of beef, pork and veal.
Mafaldini with truffle cream sauce ($20) combines thin, ribbon-shaped noodles with a rich, creamy truffle sauce. Sliced oyster mushrooms are layered between the sheets of soft, wavy pasta, along with a generous amount of parsley.
The mortadella panuozzo ($21) is a simple but satisfying cold cut, topped with arugula, pepperoncini relish and pistachio cream.
If you're looking for something with a slightly stronger flavour, try the spicy calabrese salami panuozzo ($21).
Roasted red peppers and hot antipasto sauce give this sandwich a slight kick, while arugula and lemon ricotta keep it from being too overwhelming.
In the short time since the restaurant opened, it has already gained a dedicated following. Lunchtime line-ups regularly extend out the door, with similarly busy dinnertime crowds.
Dimitri tells us that he plans to expand both the restaurant and its menu in the months to come, but for now, the team is focused on keeping their quality consistent.
Spaghetti Western is located at 998 Kingston Road.
