Bap.zip is a Korean restaurant specializing in bibimbap — a classic dish filled with vegetables, cooked meat, white rice, and the essential gochujang sauce, all carefully arranged in a sizzling hot stone bowl.

It's situated on Glen Cameron Road in Thornhill, just across from its sister establishment Piggy's Island.

Inside, the restaurant is filled with lots of plants which creates a welcoming atmosphere.

There's a flexible setup of round tables and banquette seating ideal for larger groups. You can also find individual rooms behind wooden sliding doors, providing additional privacy for larger parties or gatherings.

Owner Joeun Kim makes sure you can find all the classic Korean dishes here including bibimbap, but they really shine with options like their distinctive eggplant bibimbap.

Start your meal by sharing an order of the Seafood Pancake ($24).

Packed with plentiful assorted seafood and green onions, I'd suggest pairing it with the dipping sauce for a sweet and savoury kick. 

Piled on rich umami dressing, these raw Soy Shrimps ($19) pair exceptionally well with rice — but the gooey and slick texture may not be to everyone's taste.

The aforementioned Eggplant Dolsot bibimbap ($19) brings together fluffy sautéed eggplant and flavourful minced beef, with a raw egg yolk resting on the spicy gochujang sauce.

Alternatively, Bulgogi Dolsot ($19) comes with a harmonious blend of ten vibrant toppings, including beef, shiitake mushrooms, radish kimchi, bean sprouts, and spinach.

There's also the Spicy Squid Dolsot bibimbap ($19) which is a bold and fiery creation that merges the contrasting textures of tender squid with the crunchiness of lettuce and red cabbage.

I should note that all set meals here are accompanied by traditional Korean side dishes, known as banchan.

Immersed in clear beef broth, their Cold Noodles ($18) are a combination of chewy arrowroot noodles, beef pancakes, hard-boiled egg, crisp pear, and cucumber slices, all elevated with sweet chili pepper sauce and a tangy touch of vinegar.

It's completed with a perfectly fried egg, seaweed flakes, and a nicely caramelized rice layer underneath.

Spicy pork bone stew Gamjatang ($17), a hearty meal perfect for winter, is gently simmered in a savoury and aromatic broth infused with Korean spices, delivering mouthfuls of juicy meat that falls off the bones.

Generously glazed with katsu sauce, satisfy your meat craving with their King Don Katsu ($23) wrapped in a crispy golden outer layer. Savour a substantial piece with the refreshing cabbage salad and pickles that are served alongside the dish.

Finally, indulge in the sweet and slightly tart Plum Juice ($5) to soothe your taste buds and wrap up the meal.
