Toronto mall getting huge transformation and demolition has already begun

It's only been a decade since Toronto's Yonge Eglinton Centre got a major facelift, and the mall has once again gone under the knife for a significant renovation.

The neighbourhood shopping centre embarked on its latest transformation this spring with the start of demolition of a section at the north end of the mall.

Crews are tearing down the postmodern-style turret at the mall's northeast corner, set to be replaced with a swooping modern addition.

The corner in question was most recently home to an Urban Outfitters location, and best known to millennials as a former HMV music store that graced the corner of Yonge St. and Orchard View Blvd. for years.

And the business set to move in once construction wraps up? An RBC branch will be conveniently located directly across the street from another RBC branch at 2346 Yonge St., though the existing branch across from the mall is indeed slated for redevelopment with a tower planned on its footprint.

But this facelift isn't the only change transforming the mall.

Other planned changes include relocating the mall's LCBO and expanding the Metro grocery store.

The plan also includes the expansion of the mall's Winners location and the recent relocation of its Goodlife Fitness location into a former Toys 'R' Us location.
