With the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 set to bring a massive influx of international visitors to Toronto, Airbnb is giving the city's residents a glimpse at just how much they could earn by renting out their property.
On Wednesday, the short-term rental platform launched its new Host Earnings Calculator ahead of the tournament, which allows you to generate personalized income estimates based on when and how long you plan to host.
To sweeten the deal, Airbnb is also offering a US$750 incentive to new entire-home hosts across World Cup cities, including here in Toronto. To qualify, hosts need to welcome their first guests by July 31 and also register their property as a short-term rental with the City of Toronto.
According to Airbnb, multiple Toronto neighbourhoods have already emerged as top-earning hotspots for the global tournament, including East York, Etobicoke-Lakeshore, and Trinity Bellwoods.
Using the calculator, a two-bedroom home in Trinity Bellwoods rented out between June 11 and July 3 (23 nights) could bring in as much as $12,574 for the host. Near the newly-expanded BMO Field in Liberty Village, hosts could earn roughly $10,333 for the same time period.
In an earlier study by Deloitte, commissioned by Airbnb, data found that the average Toronto host could earn roughly CAD$2,700 by listing their space out during the tournament. Overall, total host earnings in Toronto are expected to hit US$13 million (or just about CAD$17.8 million).
Toronto is set to host six FIFA 2026 matches at BMO Field on June 12, 17, 20, 23, 26, and July 2.
