These major celebrities have called Ontario home at some point

As Canadians, we're supposed to be polite and humble, but sometimes it just feels good to brag a little bit.

Ontario has long been a magnet for talent, producing our fair share of A-listers from Justin Bieber to Rachel McAdams. But many stars south of the border have reportedly been buying property here and embracing life as honorary Canadians.

Perhaps it's not a total surprise that with Ontario's real estate market too high for most six-figure earners, some of the buyers are mega-wealthy A-list celebrities

Here are a handful of celebs who have owned or currently own homes right here in Ontario.

Elton John

Some stars prefer luxury lakefront cottages (more on that later), but others like Sir Elton John appear to enjoy a high-rise haven. The legendary singer purchased a two-storey, 2,602-square-foot penthouse dubbed "The Treehouse" at KING Toronto, an impressive new condo development taking shape on King St. W.

Whether the path to his penthouse is paved with a yellow brick road remains a mystery, but he likely said goodbye to some serious cash to land this esteemed property.

Tom Hanks

According to Forbes, the Forrest Gump star owns a scenic cottage in Muskoka, Ont., which is known as the "Hamptons of the North." Other sources say the American actor uses the private home as a summer retreat and a base for when he's filming in Ontario. Seems life is less like a box of chocolates and more like a dock at sunset.

Cindy Crawford

The quintessential supermodel of the '90s sure spends a lot of time up north. According to Vogue, Crawford, along with her husband Rande Gerber own a private seven-acre island retreat on Lake Joseph in Muskoka, Ont. While the exact price tag of that luxe retreat is not public, high-end homes in that area are often valued at around $16 million.

Connor McDavid

This NHL star may spend a lot of time in Edmonton playing for the Oilers, but when he's not on the ice, he's likely unwinding at his luxury Muskoka cottage with wife Lauren Kyle. The two love the area so much — telling Vogue, "Our favourite place in the world is our cottage in Muskoka" — they even got married there!

Prince

Only the elite, like the late, great musician Prince, live in Toronto's most exclusive Bridle Path neighbourhood, also known as "Millionaire's Row." The rock legend, who passed away in 2016, owned a six-bedroom, 10-bathroom mansion at 61 The Bridle Path from 2001 to 2006. In 2023, the property was listed for a casual $17 million.

Guillermo del Toro

You can't spell Toronto without Toro. The award-winning filmmaker has been shooting movies in the city for over four decades, so it's fair for him to call Toronto his "second home."

While his local real estate holdings are not publicly known, there are rumours floating around that he owns a home in Leslieville (one local outlet even calls him a "Leslieville resident"). In 2025, del Toro was given the keys to the city by Mayor Chow, so he really could be anywhere.

Jim Carrey

Unlike his Sonic the Hedgehog character, Dr. Robotnik, Carrey seems less concerned about world domination and more interested in peace and quiet. According to Hello! Magazine, the Canadian-born funnyman owns a property on Baptiste Lake, near Bancroft, Ont., and claims his private jet has been spotted flying in and out of Peterborough Regional Airport.

Mark Wahlberg

According to the Toronto Star, the cheesy-'90s-rapper-turned-action-movie-star bought a Yorkville penthouse for $12 million back in 2011. The one-of-a-kind property, at 36 Hazelton, is a 4600-square-foot penthouse with a private rooftop terrace with 360-degree views of the city.

Colonel Sanders

Even though he was all about Kentucky Fried Chicken, the founder, born in Indiana, actually spent quite a bit of time in Mississauga, Ont. In 1965, he and his wife, Claudia, moved from Louisville to oversee the Canadian operations and lived in a modest bungalow before retiring and passing away in Kentucky in 1980.
