Massive outdoor augmented reality experience to transform Toronto neighbourhood

A festive open-air art gallery will take over Toronto's Junction neighbourhood for nine weeks of holiday programming with the return of Window Wonderland.

The Junction will be transformed by unique art experiences, including festive window installations and murals created by local and international artists, with this year's theme of Movement + Glimmers, celebrating the idea of moving through the streets and finding little moments of joy.

"Window Wonderland has always been about finding new ways to experience art, our main street, and each other during the winter months," said Carol Jolly, Executive Director of The Junction BIA.

"This year's theme, Movement + Glimmers, gives us a wonderful opportunity to celebrate both the energy of the neighbourhood and those small moments of connection and joy that make a community feel like home," added Jolly.

The attraction, which marks seven years in the city, will feature 32 augmented reality artworks, including 20 new window installations created specifically for the 2026 holiday season and 12 "year-round AR wall murals."

Guests are encouraged to download the free Artivive app, scan select windows, and watch them come to life right in the palms of their hands.

The Junction's Window Wonderland will also feature an Indoor Artist Showcase, where visitors can peruse works by local artists in a traditional gallery setting.

The Indoor Artist Showcase will take place inside Latitude 44 Gallery (2900 Dundas St. W.) from Nov. 27 to Jan. 31, during gallery hours.

While art installations remain the star of the show, Window Wonderland also sees the return of McGregor Carolers and Merry Alpine Sheep Choir. Both groups will perform on select days throughout the event.

Of course, no holiday attraction would be complete without a visit from the big man in red. Santa Claus will appear in all his jolly glory on Dec. 5 and 6, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors can catch him at Petty Fine Foods (3077 Dundas St. W., Unit 1) on Saturday and MEDS Junction Pharmacy (2956 Dundas St. W.) on Sunday.

The Junction's annual Window Wonderland runs from Nov. 27 to Jan. 31, and the full schedule of events is now available online.
