Major Toronto street to shut down as huge festival returns to city this weekend

Summer may be about ready to wrap up its run for 2026, but outdoor festivals in Toronto are still going strong, including the upcoming Pape Village Block Party.

The two-day-long event returns to the streets of Toronto this weekend, shutting down parts of Pape Avenue and turning it into a pedestrian-only zone with live entertainment, food from local restaurants, and vendor markets where attendees can shop and support local businesses.

"The Festival promises to deliver an exciting line-up of performers; from Latin rhythms to classic rock, solo artists to tribute bands, this all-ages event will get everyone dancing and singing along," an announcement for the event reads.

Eight entertainment acts will grace the stage, including GTA-based, female-led band BreakFree and local Caribbean-fusion band Moka. Although the lineup currently lists only eight entertainers, the official statement promises more names on site.

"We are really excited for our fourth year of the Pape Village Block Party," Devin Wilkins, a co-organizer of the Pape Village Block Party, tells blogTO. As a relatively new event, he's happy to report, "The event has grown each year, and we have tremendous support from the local community and businesses that help us produce this end-of-summer party." 

The Pape Village Block Party is happening on Sept. 19 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sept. 20 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. To ensure the event delivers the ultimate street-party vibes, a stretch of Pape Avenue will be closed to all vehicular traffic for the weekend.

If you plan to travel into that part of the city this weekend, you'll also want to give yourself plenty of time to navigate the closures: Pape Avenue will be closed from Mortimer Avenue to Cosburn Avenue from Sept. 19 at 6 a.m. to Sept. 20 at 9 p.m.
