U.S. fighter jets pull out of Toronto's CNE Air show amid political tensions
The 2026 Canadian International Air Show (CIAS) has made last-minute changes to its weekend-long showcase, as the United States-based USAF F-16 Demonstration Team will no longer be featured in this annual end-of-summer Toronto tradition.
The CIAS, celebrating its 77th edition this year, announced the cancellation on social media, stating, "The F-16 Demonstration Team will no longer be able to participate at the 2026 Canadian International Air Show," and confirming the decision was beyond the institution's control.
Although no further information has been provided, the cancellation overlaps with rising tensions between Canada and the United States, with recent trade talks breaking down and U.S. President Donald Trump signing an executive order to rename Lake Ontario happening in the days leading up to the unexplained cancellation by the USAF F-16 Demonstration Team.
Despite the last-minute changes, the event is still expected to draw huge crowds to the Toronto waterfront for Labour Day weekend.
The CIAS is urging aviation lovers to purchase their tickets before they sell out, and, from the looks of it, time is running out to secure a spot close to the action. The Exclusive Air Show Zone is quickly running out of spots, while the Flight Desk Chalet and Photo Pit Passes for the weekend are already sold out, with limited tickets available across the remaining tiers.
The CIAS is reintroducing four new acts to the 2026 show: Redline Airshows, the Beechcraft Expeditor, the T-33, and the CP-140 Aurora, all long-time favourites making a much-anticipated return to the skies after hiatuses from the air show.
The 2026 Canadian International Air Show takes place from Sept. 5 to 7, from 12 p.m. to 3:40 p.m. daily.
