Another Toronto food festival was just abruptly cancelled

The abysmal trend of cancelled events in Toronto continues, as another seasonal food festival announces that it has officially axed its upcoming attraction.

Foodville Festival, an annual event that highlights the city's Afro-Caribbean and Afro-Latin music and food scene, launched in Toronto in 2023 and has since delivered a packed lineup of entertainment and food vendors across venues citywide.

The 2026 edition of the event, however, will not go on as planned, as organizers took to the event's official Instagram account to announce the abrupt cancellation.

"We secured the venue. Permits were approved on schedule. Our headline deposit went out. The lineup was built, and our vendors were confirmed," the statement reads.

Despite making good headway on the essentials, the organizers admit they "overextended," leaving them unable to deliver what they promised. Although the statement provides no further information or clarification on the overextension, it says the event will pause this year and return in 2027.

Event organizers have confirmed that everyone who purchased a ticket will be reimbursed in the coming days.

The news of the Foodville Festival cancellation in Toronto comes just three days before the event was set to take over Lamport Stadium on Aug. 22.

The festival joins a growing list of other attractions featuring Black-owned businesses that have been cancelled in recent months, including AFROFEST and Taste of Little Jamaica.
