Shen Yun, the classical Chinese dance show, met an untimely disruption in Toronto after its 2 p.m. show on March 29 was cancelled due to reported bomb threat at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. The remaining shows have now been cancelled to prevent any further escalation.
The Falun Dafa Association of Toronto (FDAT), the presenter of the shows, initially confirmed in a press release that it would enhance security measures for upcoming performances.
However, the show's official website now states that "The Canadian Opera House Corporation has decided to cancel all remaining Shen Yun performances at the Four Seasons Centre. We are working with the theater and will share updates if any shows can be reinstated."
The remaining performances were scheduled for April 3, 4, and 5. There has been no comment yet on how ticketholders will receive refunds for the cancelled shows.
Shen Yun is closely associated with the Falun Gong religious movement, which alleges widespread persecution by the Chinese government and incorporates criticism of the ruling Communist Party into its performances.
This is not the first disruption Shen Yun has faced this season.
Its March 15 performance in Mississauga was significantly delayed due to a reported bomb threat ahead of the show.
Although the FDAT press release also confirmed these were "hoax threats," they have had a significant impact on audiences who were looking forward to experiencing Shen Yun live.
