The Luminato Festival returns to Toronto this year, transforming the city into a literal playground to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
The 2026 edition will be the longest in the festival's history, spanning four full weeks. Attendees can expect a massive spectacle featuring over 50 events, 140 performances, and 1,000 artists, centred around the festival's theme: Play.
Taking place across more than 25 venues citywide, this year's Luminato encourages audiences to embrace everything from childlike wonder to meaningful conversations about equality, with a mix of playful activations and thought-provoking artwork.
"Luminato is a bright reflection of all that is great about Toronto," Celia Smith, CEO, Luminato, says in a press release. "After 20 years, I'm immensely proud that our friends and neighbours continue to join us in joyful celebration of this vibrant global city."
Organizers promise that Luminato has something for everyone. The lineup includes theatre, dance, music, opera, circus, and public art, with a mix of large-scale productions and interactive experiences that blur the lines between audience and performer.
Canadian R&B singer Divine Brown is set to take the Harbourfront Concert stage to pay tribute to legendary soul singer Minnie Riperton on June 13, making it one of the festival's standout performances.
Public art will once again transform the city, with installations, sculptures, and a photo series appearing throughout transit spaces. Free festival hubs will also return, bringing exhibits such as Anthems to Colour, Pyramid Fields, and Colourful Parachutes to various venues around town.
Some fan-favourite experiences are returning, including the giant roaming red ball installation — RedBall Toronto — that pops up in unexpected places around the city, prompting the perfect "wait, what is that?" reaction.
Luminato returns to Toronto from June 3 to 28. Tickets for events are now on sale, available directly through the event's official website, where you can also view the full itinerary.
