Toronto's Taste of the Junction is back from the dead, with the cancelled street festival revived for 2026, and it's all thanks to the FIFA World Cup.
As Toronto gears up to host games during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the city has introduced the Community Celebration Support Fund, a grant program approved to support local cultural events. Through this fund, the City of Toronto is awarding up to $40,000 to free local events happening throughout the massive sports spectacle next June and July.
The 2025 edition of Taste of the Junction, known for its vendor markets, performances, and culinary experiences, was abruptly cancelled last summer, coming amid a series of festival and event cancellations.
"Taste of the Junction is cancelled indefinitely," the mid-2025 announcement read.
"After much consideration, the Board of Management has decided to redirect its staff efforts and resources to support the Junction's signature winter event, Window Wonderland, an outdoor art exhibition from November to January, and the City's CaféTO in the Junction patio program in the summer, from May to October," said event organizers.
Now, the festival is getting boosted back to life. The Junction BIA has been granted almost $27,000 from the Community Celebration Support Fund to put toward the 2026 event. With a new budget north of $61,500, over 35 vendors have already expressed interest in the revived event, as well as cultural installations and a new augmented reality mural.
A large list of vendors has already applied to join this year's market, with notable names including Chiang Mai, Clandestina Mexican Grill & Bar, Gabby's on Dundas, The Sweet Potato, The Draft Room, and more.
Taste of the Junction is scheduled for June 27, 2026, at the Green P lot located at 385 Pacific Ave.
