Toronto's St. Lawrence Market transforming into magical winter destination this month

One of Toronto's most iconic landmarks is transforming into a whimsical winter wonderland just in time for the holidays.

The Distillery District Winter Village tends to get all the credit when it comes to Toronto's holiday traditions, and it's not without good reason, but another one of the city's historic landmarks has been quietly climbing up the ranks in terms of holiday cheer, too.

For a second year running, St. Lawrence Market is gearing up to unleash whimsical winter magic on the city with the return of its Winter Market.

Taking over Market Street for an entire month this holiday season, the market will see the pedestrian street turned into a winter village plucked straight from your most festive fantasies, with a slew of local vendors, live performances, seasonal food and drinks, and maybe even an appearance from Santa Claus or two.

While several local food businesses will be setting up shop in charming wood cabins along Market Street, serving seasonal specials inspired by the holidays, you also have the added benefit of dipping inside the actual market and exploring even more eats or even pairing gift and grocery shopping together.

As for non-edible treats, you can expect to explore a carefully curated selection of handmade, artisanal and one-of-a-kind goods, perfect for crossing names off your gift list, or even picking up some well-deserved goodies for yourself.

Each day of the market will see the street come to life with unique programming, featuring everyone from a not-so-Little Drummer Boy on stilts to a herd of carolling sheep (no, I'm not joking.)

The best part of all? Admission to the market is completely free. As for all the gifts, goodies and drinks you'll inevitably want to pick up while you're there, however, you will have to pay for those.

The St. Lawrence Market Winter Market runs Thursday through Sunday from Nov. 20 to Dec. 22, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends.
