Massive two-day market to take over abandoned Toronto store this month

Two of Toronto's biggest indie markets are teaming up for a massive fall takeover inside a 7,000 square-foot abandoned retail space on Queen Street West.

Toronto Hippie Market and The Welcome Market — both touting themselves as "the biggest market" of their kind — are bringing their second collaborative event to the former Anthropologie flagship location, which was shuttered earlier this year.

The event will transform the vacant two-storey space into a buzzing pop-up marketplace for an entire weekend later this month.

The market features over 50 local businesses setting up shop for customers all weekend long, offering everything from designer goods and handcrafted items to rare, finest vintage finds.

A collaboration between the two brands first made waves in June, when the markets joined forces for their first-ever pop-up in the same location, going viral on TikTok and Instagram, where they garnered over 200,000 views in the lead-up to the event.

Organizers recall over 1,000 customers flooding the market to shop in a single day, and shoppers will soon have another chance to get in on the fun with two full floors filled with vintage resellers, local artisans, and small businesses.

The pop-up market takes place on Oct. 18 and 19, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, at the former Anthropologie flagship store located at 761 Queen St. W.
