Toronto pet festival lets you adopt puppies and kittens on site this weekend

Pet-lovers of Toronto, unite! Paws in the Park, presented by Toronto Humane Society (THS), is back with its annual event this weekend, providing a free party for pets, their hoomans, and animal lovers citywide.

The entire family — especially the furriest members — are welcome to take part, with tons of activities on tap.  There's yummy food and treats for pets and humans alike, an array of local vendors, personalized caricatures, an agility course, ask-an-expert sessions, and even a dog-friendly beer garden.

Best of all, all of the fun in the sun is for a good cause, doubling as the Humane Society's largest fundraiser of the year. The associated Pledge for Paws campaign, which attendees are encouraged take part in, raises money for the organization's support programs that operate year-round.

And, if you happen to be looking for another four-legged friend to add to your household, there's another adorable way to support: through the adoption of one of dozens of kittens and pups that will be looking for new homes on the day of the event.

As THS notes in a press release, a total of 15 dogs and 22 kittens (aged 3-5 months) will be saved from overcrowded shelter situations and brought to the facility for potential adoption at Paws in the Park.

Adoption conversations will take place at the event on a first-come, first-served basis, so interested adopters should plan to arrive early.

People have already been expressing their excitement to meet the potential adoptees on social media, calling the concept an amazing idea to connect dogs and cats in need with hopeful pet parents.

Paws in the Park presented by Amazon is taking place at the Toronto Humane Society at 11 River Street, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on August 16.
