City of Toronto to lay off 1,200 workers

Happy holidays City of Toronto employees! And here's your pink slip. Of the 2,300+ jobs to be eliminated from the City's payroll for the 2012 budget, 1,200 will come in the form of layoffs. Although the 2012 budget won't be approved until January, the Star reports "that a flurry of layoff notices has been issued in the past week to managers and union members who are classified as temporary and therefore lack ironclad job provisions."

Meanwhile over at the Grid, Edward Keenan theorizes that this was part of Ford's plan all along.
