Leafs trade Beauchemin to Ducks

The Toronto Maple Leafs have finally made a trade! Heading back to the Anaheim Ducks is defenceman Francois Beauchemin, and coming to Toronto are forward Joffrey Lupul, defenceman Jake Gardiner and a conditional fourth-round draft pick in the 2013 Entry Draft.

In Beauchemin the Leafs lose a fairly steady player who never matched the form that he showed during the Ducks 2007 Stanley Cup win. The hope is, however, that Lupul, a former first round draft pick, will help the Leafs offensive output. Although he only has five goals and eight assists this season, he missed 24 games on account of a back injury. Career-wise, he's racked up 117 goals and 121 assists in 421 career games - not exactly dazzling numbers, but not bad either.

Jake Gardiner, who's touted as a solid defensive prospect, plays out of the University of Wisconsin.
