Smitherman snags Hotel Union endorsement

Unite Here Local 75, the union representing 7,000 hotel workers, threw its support behind George Smitherman today, adding to his list of union endorsements.

The union released a statement saying a Ford mayoralty would increase division and intolerance in Toronto. "He threatens to tear our city apart with mean-spiritedness and will attack our communities and the services we depend on," the union says. They may also allege that Ford hates rainbows and can stand stone-faced in a room of adorable playing puppies.

The local says Smitherman "respects our work and supports our communities . . . He knows that creating one Toronto, rather than a divided city of haves and have-nots, requires the active support of the mayor for immigrant workers, their families and communities."
