Smitherman unveils green energy plan for Toronto

Mayoral candidate George Smitherman unveiled his green energy program today atop the solar-paneled roof the York School in Rosedale.

Hopefully the cost won't be sky high! ...ahem

Smitherman said he wants to create "Green Energy Districts" in areas with high vacancy, install solar panels and "biogas and biomas" systems in buildings. As previously stated, he intends to keep Toronto Hydro public but plans to refocus it in order to create "500 megawatts of new, clean renewable power -- installed by residents, the public and private sector."

Smitherman also toted support for homeowners who adopt green-style systems.
