Caribana gets last-minute funding

Despite Ottawa withholding the $400,000 funding provided last year, Caribana 2010 has been pretty much in full swing. But a last-minute funding stream announced this morning means the annual festival may not be in the red following this weekend's parade.

"There will not be a deficit," Joe Halstead, the outgoing chief executive of Toronto's annual Caribana festival, told CBC News. "Caribana will not be shortchanged this year."

Halstead would not reveal the source of the last-minute dough, but hinted that the province has been instrumental in securing funding for the parade. That Dalton.. he's a stealth one.

The Caribana Parade begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at Exhibition Place.
