Live Music Toronto

Hot Ticket: Charlotte Cornfield, Low Level Flight, Capital Stacks, Foxes in Fiction, The Cool Hands, Cowlick, Jim Bryson & The Weakerthans Band, Daniel Ledwell, Ladyhawk, Best Coast/Wavves, No Joy, The Radio Dept. & more

Live music picks for WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 2 through TUESDAY FEBRUARY 8, 2011.

WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 2 / CHARLOTTE CORNFIELD / SUPERMARKET / 268 AUGUSTA AVE / PWYC / ALL AGES
Considered the next "it girl" after the release of her Collage Light EP in 2009, Montreal-based folk-rock artist Charlotte Cornfield is set for another tour across Canada as she releases a new EP in March and a full-length album Two Horses later this year. Toronto's Low Level Flight and Capital Stacks join Cornfield for Supermarket's weekly PWYC Wednesdays Go Pop!

THURSDAY FEBRUARY 3 / FOXES IN FICTION / HARD LUCK BAR / 812 DUNDAS ST W / $5
Foxes in Fiction a.k.a Warren Hildebrand is a one-man show, whose debut album Swung from the Branches got him noticed. Hildebrand was part of the shoegaze showcase at Twist Gallery's Wintergaze last December along with Memoryhouse, Ostrich Tuning, Heartbeat Hotel and others. You can catch Foxes in Fiction at Hard Luck Bar with fellow locals The Cool Hands, Cowlick and The Connoisseurs of Porn.

FRIDAY FEBRUARY 4 / JIM BRYSON & THE WEAKERTHANS BAND / LEE'S PALACE / 529 BLOOR ST W / $17.50 / 19+
Jim Bryson & The Weakerthans Band take their collaborative effort The Falcon Lake Incident on stage at Lee's Palace, bringing with them melodic lullabies like "Constellation" and their toe-thumping hit "Metal Girls". Toronto's Sunparlour Players and Halifax's Daniel Ledwell - keyboardist for In-Flight Safety - also join the Friday night line-up.

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 5 / LADYHAWK / THE SHOP / 1566 QUEEN ST W / $12 / 19+
Vancouver guitar heroes Ladyhawk - not to mix them up with New Zealand's Ladyhawke - visits Toronto for two nights at The Shop. So, if you can't make it to their show on Friday, catch them the following night for an encore show along with Duffy and the Doubters and Quest for Fire.

SUNDAY FEBRUARY 6 / BEST COAST/ WAVVES / PHOENIX / 410 SHERBOURNE ST / $19 / ALL AGES
Best Coast at Lee's Palace was one of my favourite shows of 2010. Now, Bethany Cosentino joins forces with her beau Nathan Williams' band, Wavves, as they tour their matching cat-art-covered, sun-filled albums from last year (along with new songs) across North America. The surf-pop specialists from California are joined by Montreal's No Joy for a must-see super Sunday show at the Phoenix.

MONDAY FEBRUARY 7 / THE RADIO DEPT. / LEE'S PALACE / 529 BLOOR ST W / SOLD OUT / 19+
Following the release of their third studio album Clinging to a Scheme last year and a Singles record Passive Aggressive just last week, Swedish dream-pop group The Radio Dept. plays a sold out Lee's Palace show on Monday night. Watch their new video for "Never Follow Suit" above, and then check out Rawkblog to listen to their new track "The One". San Francisco's Young Prisms are set to open, along with others to be announced.
