Controversial celebrity Mel Gibson recently showed up at a trendy Toronto wellness space known for catering to the longevity-obsessed crowd.
Actors, athletes, and tech bros are all flocking to high-end wellness centres in search of relaxation, recovery and eternal youth. And evidently, there's no amount of public backlash that can keep a celebrity away from a fancy oxygen chamber.
That may explain what the contentious actor-director was doing at Supernatural, a 5,000-square-foot wellness space in Yorkville that opened earlier this year. According to staff, Gibson stopped by on July 10 to check out the facility's offerings.
"He was super nice with a great sense of humour," they tell blogTO. "He also became a 'Superbeing' member, and we expect to see him [as] a regular for longevity treatments."
Once considered one of the biggest movie stars in the world, Gibson's reputation was badly damaged after a 2006 drunk-driving arrest in which he made antisemitic remarks to the arresting officer. Four years later, despite a seemingly expensive PR push to rehab his image, leaked recordings of Gibson making racist and abusive comments toward his former partner deepened the damage.
Since then, he's remained one of Hollywood's most polarizing figures.
A week ago, Gibson was spotted grabbing food at Rosie's Burgers and took photos with staff, which the restaurant later shared on Instagram. However, the post disappeared a few days later, and it remains unclear whether that had anything to do with the resulting online backlash.
Expect to see more of the Mad Max star in the city this summer. On Aug. 29, he'll appear at Fan Expo, where, for just $275, he'll take a photo or sign an autograph for you.
