You can get free stuff at Toronto IKEA locations by trading in old furniture

If you're hanging onto some old furniture, mirrors, or lamps, you'll be pleased to hear that you can trade in select items for an IKEA gift card this week in the Greater Toronto Area.

That's right, when you bring in an eligible, gently-used piece of furniture to a participating IKEA location, you'll receive either a $25 gift card for small furniture items or a $50 gift card for large furniture items.

"We believe that all furniture deserves a second chance, even furniture that isn't ours," IKEA Canada's website reads. The initiative, which takes place between April 25 to 26 as part of Earth month, is in partnership with Furniture Bank, a registered charity and social enterprise that redistributes gently-used furniture and housewares to families and individuals experiencing furniture poverty.

Although multiple donations will be accepted, only one gift card will be provided per person. Eligible furniture must not show any signs of bodily fluids, mould, stains, or pest infestations, and all items will be reviewed by a Furniture Bank co-worker.

Large furniture donations can include sofas and couches, dining tables for four to eight people, credenzas, disassembled beds, dressers, armoires, and desks. Small items can include tables seating fewer than four people, end tables, bookshelves, chairs, floor lamps, nightstands, and mirrors.

Office furniture (such as conference tables, large desks, cubicles), decoration, housewares, kitchen items, mattresses, electronics, and appliances will not be accepted.

Participating locations in the GTA include IKEA Burlington (Treasure Hunt parking lot), IKEA Etobicoke, IKEA North York, IKEA Scarborough Town Centre (Swiss Chalet parking lot), IKEA Toronto Downtown (at College Park), and IKEA Vaughan.
