Topman The Bay

Topman + The Bay's Canada doesn't include Ossington

Earlier this week, CEO and President of The Bay, Bonnie Brooks, announced U.K. fashion retailer Topshop will be opening a flagship store in The Bay on Queen Street within in the year.

Adding to the announcement, David Shepherd, Managing Director for Topman said, "We are very excited to have secured our first introduction in the Canadian market with the partnership of The Bay and look forward to the opening of the first store in Toronto."

Lovely, indeed, except Topshop has already been in Canada since 2010, available at Ossington's Jonathan+Olivia since July of that year. It seems, however, that will soon be coming to an end.

In a statement released today, Jackie O'Brien-Jones, owner of Jonathan+Olivia, said, "Topshop approached us over 18 months ago to test the Canadian market as
they considered us to be a high profile independent retailer. [. . .] We knew this opportunity would last only as long as it took them to advance with a franchise here in Canada, as they have in other parts of the world."

She then added, "Topshop will continue to be sold at Jonathan+Olivia, 49 Ossington Avenue until the Topshop franchises open this fall."

O'Brien Jones declined to comment to us separate from her press release.
