If you recently shopped at Dollarama, you may want to check your kitchen after a product was recalled across Canada.
Make sure to check your pantry or spice rack because on Wednesday, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced that it's recalling a brand of garlic powder sold at Dollarama locations.
According to the notice, the affected product is the Heavenly Spices brand Garlic Powder, and it's being recalled due to Bacillus cereus. The recall was triggered by Dollarama L.P., and Canadians are being urged not to use, sell, serve, or distribute the product.
The Heavenly Spices Garlic Powder comes in a 70-gram container with the universal product code (UPC) 6 67888 50634 7 and codes BB: 2029 JAN 30 GP 30ZV PIT.

The recall has been assigned as a class two, which means that "there is a moderate risk that consuming the food may lead to short-term or non-life-threatening health problems." If you've been affected by the recall, you can file a report with the Government of Canada.
Bacillus cereus, excluding biovar anthracis, is a type of bacterium with different strains that can cause illness and food poisoning, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC). Symptoms can last for six to 24 hours and can include diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, and vomiting. Although most cases resolve themselves within one or two days, severe cases can lead to death, with higher risks of complications among the elderly and patients with lower stomach acidity, states the B.C. Centre for Disease Control.
The CFIA also recently announced that it's recalling several spices sold across Canada due to undeclared allergens.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall notice for various ground spices and spice blends from the brand Salem Foods, which may contain undeclared wheat, sesame, and mustard.
