'Burger omakase' is a thing in Toronto now apparently

A Toronto burger restaurant is now serving a sort of secret "burger omakase," and here's how you can get in on it.

Toronto loves a good food mashup: poke and burgers, margaritas and soft-serve, and pairing Japanese culinary philosophies with, well, anything, seems to be all the rage on the city's food scene, but the latest restaurant to do so may be one of the most unexpected yet.

At Danforth's Friday Burger Company, chef Joe Friday is now cooking up a 'burger omakase' for in-the-know diners, beefing up the Japanese tradition of multi-course, chef-crafted sushi menus.

While a traditional omakase typically revolves around ten or more small, largely sushi-based bites, Friday has instead opted for five burger (and burger-adjacent) courses, followed by a dessert. In short, it's a burger-lover's paradise.

The inaugural omakase at Fridays featured quite the spread indeed: lobster caviar grilled cheese, wagyu bacon jam burger, Nashville hot chicken sandwich, the restaurant's Monday and Friday Burgers and Mississippi mud pie to round it all off.

You may walk away with a heightened risk for gout, but, hey, they don't call it the King's Disease for nothing. Eat like a king, you will.

There's a catch, though, because the whole thing is very hush-hush. To score a seat at a future Friday Burger Omakase, you'll have to send the restaurant a DM on Instagram expressing your interest in an invitation. The next time they're cooking one up, they'll let you know.

In the meantime, you can get a preliminary taste of Friday Burger Company at 2162 Danforth Ave.
