A new burger restaurant is opening soon in one Toronto neighbourhood, but will it have what it takes to compete with the throng of patty-slingers already in the immediate area?
Find yourself saddled with a burger craving in the environs of Queen and Pape in Leslieville, and you won't have much trouble locating the perfect patty to sate it. There's Soy Boys, for the animal product-averse, Avling, for something thick and restaurant-y, and further west on the strip, a smattering of pubs and fast food joints all offer their own options.
For the team behind New Era Burgers, the neighbourhood's latest soon-to-open burger joint, the competition is no big deal.
Taking over what was formerly a condo showroom at the southwest corner of the intersection, the restaurant's ownership describes New Era Burgers as a "passion project," noting that, despite not being open yet, the neighbourhood has already welcomed them with open arms.
"We're incredibly grateful for the warm welcome we've already received from the community," the restaurant team tells blogTO.
The menu at the burger restaurant will be entirely made fresh to order, using "premium ingredients" and "no shortcuts," yielding a fairly standard crop of offerings, like cheeseburgers available with or without bacon and served with one or two patties, grilled and crispy chicken burgers, and even a vegetarian option.
While there are plenty of places with burgers on the menu in the surrounding area, New Era is, at the same time, filling the gap of an independent, quick-service burger joint in the neighbourhood. At least one that uses meat in their burgers: I see you, Soy Boys.
The restaurant is still under construction, so a firm opening date has yet to be confirmed, but the team assures blogTO that they're "hoping to open very soon."
New Era Burgers will be located at 1001 Queen St. E.
