Beverage at Costco Canada recalled and customers can get a refund

If you recently went on a Costco Canada grocery run, make sure to check your fridge as the company has just shared a Canada-wide recall.

Costco Canada shared a notice on its website on Monday, alerting shoppers that it's recalling the Lactantia UltraPūr 2% M.F. dairy beverage sold as a two-litre carton.

Dairy company Lactalis Canada states that it's issuing the recall as a result of over-fortification of Vitamin A and D compared to the recommended daily intake limit. It states that excessive levels of Vitamin A and D "may represent a food safety risk."

The recalled dairy beverage has an expiry date of June 22, 2026. It was sold exclusively at Costco warehouses and Costco Business Centres nationwide between May 2026 and June 2026.

Do not consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute the affected product. And if you have any concerns or have symptoms as a result of consuming the beverage, make sure to consult your doctor.

Costco Canada shoppers can return the beverage to any Costco warehouse to receive a full refund.

According to HealthLink B.C., in Canada, vitamin D must be added to certain foods, including cow's milk and margarine. However, Harvard Health Publishing reports that too much of it could be toxic and lead to hypercalcemia, a condition that causes calcium to build up in the blood, forming deposits in the arteries or soft tissues. Similarly, consuming more than the recommended amount of vitamin A can cause it to slowly build up in the body's tissues.

"The recall is limited to the specifically stated product and lot identified and does not affect any other Lactantia UltraPūr products," reads the notice.
