Toronto residents now have a brand-new spot for all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ, and it's right in the heart of one of the city's most vibrant neighbourhoods.
Korean BBQ has some magic baked (or, should I say, grilled) into it that gives it the ability to turn even the worst of days around. There's something especially satisfying about grilling your own juicy slabs of galbi that puts an instant smile on your face.
Here in Toronto, Korean BBQ restaurants are in very good supply, from high-end options like Takja to longstanding staples like Korean Village. Whatever you're in the mood for, the city's got it.
One thing that's been lacking in recent years has been all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ, but now, with the arrival of Jongro Korean BBQ Buffet, that hole has been filled.
Situated at the buzzy intersection of Yonge and Bloor, Jongro is one of a small number of Korean buffets in the city: a collection that grows even more disparate the closer you get downtown.
Not to fear, now it's here, and it's just a few steps away from Bloor-Yonge station.
For lunch only, adults can dine at the buffet and salad bar for $25 weekdays and $27 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The restaurant's buffet section includes a vibrant array of soups, mains like fried rice and bulgogi, dumplings, cold cuts and baked goods.
When it comes to Korean BBQ, adults can get a pared-down selection of all-you-can-eat plus access to the buffet and salad bar for $29 on weekdays and $32 on weekends and holidays. Here, you'll find classics like brisket, chicken thigh, pork belly and corn cheese.
At dinner, the buffet closes, and the Korean BBQ offerings expand, with the addition of succulent staples like kalbi, beef tongue, aged pork butt and king oyster mushrooms. Running from 5 to 11 p.m., dinner service costs $44 on weekdays and $47 on weekends.
Not too shabby for an all-you-can-eat meal that could quite possibly change the course of your entire week. Or, at the very least, improve your mood.
Jongro Korean BBQ Buffet is located at 745 Yonge St.
