Here's the ideal temperature for patio season according to Toronto residents

Toronto has had a few drive-bys with patio season so far this spring, but the warm weather has yet to stick around long enough for the city's residents to really get into the swing of al fresco dining and drinking.

It begs the question: how warm is warm enough for Toronto residents to plant themselves on a patio with a pint in hand? Personally, I'm keen to bundle up and grit my teeth as soon as temperatures hit the positives, but I understand that not everyone shares quite the same level of zest for drinking in the open air.

That said, Toronto residents are known for their enduring passion for patios, so what's the actual numeric value that'll get us off our couches and out in the world?

blogTO endeavoured to find an absolute answer to this question using the highly scientific method of asking strangers on the street, and the answers were mixed, to say the least.

When asked how warm the weather has to be for participants to go out on a patio, answers largely landed between 15 C and 22 C, with caveats for sun exposure and whether the patio is heated.

Other participants had more abstract answers to the question.

"It has to be warm enough so your beer sweats when they serve it to you on that beautiful outdoor patio," one person answered.

Among many Toronto residents, regardless of their preferred temperature, one stipulation was unanimous: "no wind."

With Toronto temperatures expected to remain above the zero mark from here on out, here's hoping that a lively and vibrant patio season is just ahead of us.
